Controls Overview
All variable speed drives and brakes require a separate controller to provide the DC excitation for their coil. A feedback signal from an internal tachometer generator is compared to a reference signal within the controller to maintain accurate speed control. Although there is considerable overlap of controller capability for any given drive, there are reasons for commonality at existing installations, with different features and customer benefits that continue to support the need for more than one type of controller.
